The number of users switching from Android to iPhone reached the highest level in the last five years. According to a new report from research firm CIRP, about 15% of iPhone purchasers in the US reported that they switched from Android phones in the 12-month period ending March 2023. About 83% said they already had an iPhone before.
According to the report, there is a 4% increase in the number of people replacing their Android phones with iPhones compared to the previous year ending in March 2022. The firm analyzed iPhone purchases data for the last nine years, and according to it, the highest period in transitions from Android to iPhone was the 12-month period ending in March 2016, with 21%.
Also, the number of people replacing new Android phones in 2018 has decreased over the years to 15%. Outside of Android, the remaining 1% to 2% of users have switched from ‘dumb’ phones or have a phone for the first time.
“Switching mobile operating systems is perceived as a challenge by smartphone owners, so high fidelity to operating systems is shown,” the CIRP report said. Still, the transition is happening, and we’re tracking it in our surveys. “Over the past year or two, ex-Android users seem to make up an increasing percentage of iPhone buyers.”
Apple’s iPhone has not lost its lead even when the global smartphone market is in decline. The company announced in its latest revenue announcement that its iPhone division generated $51 billion in revenue in the second quarter. But analysts also attribute the increased iPhone sales to the longevity of Apple devices and the connectivity of its ecosystem.
