The Hubble Space Telescope continues to provide dramatic pictures of the universe despite the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. NASA and ESA have released a Hubble Space Telescope image of Arp-Madore 417-391, a strange galaxy collision about 670 million light-years away. The gravitational struggle of the two galaxies has produced a strange ring shape. In this shape, the centers of galaxies lie close to each other, and the stellar eruptions form a circle around them.

The telescope detected the merger using its long-serving Advanced Search Camera, which helps detect strange galaxies and even dark matter.

After this detection, the researchers will point the James Web Space Telescope to this point to take more detailed images and learn more.

As the Hubble Space Telescope is slowly nearing the end of its useful life, we won’t be able to see such images very often anymore. There have been many system failures in the last few years, and if nothing changes, the telescope is thought to fall back to Earth in 2030. This latest galaxy collision image may be one of the last spectacular creations of the Hubble Space Telescope.
