Microsoft has postponed the release date of the game to 2026 by giving more time to Playground Games to further improve the highly anticipated new Fable game.

In 2020, Playground Games took responsibility for the restart of Fable as a developer known for the Forza Horizon series. This announcement was a surprise that excited Xbox fans, because many details have not been shared over the years about the revitalization of the franchise. For several years, a few trailers have been released about the Fable at Xbox game events. The latest trailer pointed to the 2025 release date of the game, but now the game was officially postponed to 2026.

The postponement announcement was held in a broadcast attended by Craig Duncan, President of Xbox Game Studios at Xbox Podcast. Duncan, “We had a plan to land Fable in 2025 before, but now we will give more time to the Fable in 2026. I know that this news is not pleasant for fans, but I want to assure them: it will be a game worth waiting,” he said.

Duncan said he played some parts of the game while visiting Playground Games and shared his experiences. “I played some parts in the city and I took care not to break anything. If I had ruined something, Ralph and team wouldn’t forgive,” he said: “I played some tasks, wars and boss wars. I used a magic and had a great experience. It was very nice with the atmosphere of the original games.”
