Atari Jaguar, which tried to gain a place in the market with its 64-bit console in the 1990s and is known by very few players even today, could not see the value it wanted in the market with its console-specific games and interesting controller.

The console, which was released in 1993, was almost dominated by the release of Sony PlayStation in 1995 and was withdrawn from sale in 1996. Speedster II, a racing game that has never been released for Atari Jaguar, whose sales could not even reach 150 thousand units, has emerged after 27 years.

Atari Jaguar’s lost game: Speedster II

As you can remember, the game world was full of racing games until the beginning of the 2000s, where you felt like the road was coming to you, not the road. Due to factors such as the insufficient development of animation technologies and very low frame rates, it was possible to come across such racing games frequently on nostalgic consoles such as NES and SNES. Speedster II was just one of the never-released versions of these games.

Speedster II and the vehicle developed for the game…

In 1995, after the legendary debut of Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation, Atari Jaguar was re-released with a CD-Rom entry. The console, which was tried to be revived by adding 13 more games in total and launching it for a full 100 dollars cheaper than its competitors, died in 1995 despite all the efforts of IBM and Atari. The sudden withdrawal of the console from the market also caused many games to never be released.

The prototype version of Speedster II, developed by L4 Software for Carousel International, was revealed exactly 27 years later by a game fan named Kevin Bunch.

This game, which was developed for a toy car called ‘kiddie ride’, which is one of the famous game entertainment vehicles of that period and which you can still see in some entertainment centers, where you can play until you complete the race by throwing coins. A ROM version was also released. If you want to try this game after 27 years, you can download the file by clicking here.
