Galaxy S22 series ships with Android 12 and One UI 4.1. While Samsung did talk a bit about the latest software at its Galaxy Unpacked event, it’s clear that it skipped some minor details. For example, the messaging app… Galaxy S22 series will come with Google Messages as the default messaging app in the United States.

Most Galaxy S22 customers in the US probably won’t even realize that Google is the default messaging app on their new phone, as the app is fully integrated into One UI. But the application they actually use will be Google’s application, not Samsun’s.

Last year, Samsung introduced a new user interface to the Google Messages app on the Galaxy S21 series, in line with the One UI design language. The same app now applies to the Galaxy S22 and this time it’s the default app.

As part of the partnership between Google and Samsung, Google Messages specially designed for One UI does not stand out among other Samsung applications. And functionally speaking, both Samsung and Google Messages work very similarly. If users still want to return to the Samsung SMS application, they can do so from the Settings section.
