As technology advances, cars also get smarter. Many new vehicles now host various autonomous systems. So much so that self-driving taxis have been tested in the USA for a long time. However, autonomous technology, which we can consider as new, can appear with different images. An example of this was seen in San Francisco recently.
Autonomous vehicles blocked the road
Autonomous vehicles coming together at the intersection in San Francisco caused traffic to stop for hours. Chevrolet Bolt branded vehicles belonging to the Cruise autonomous vehicle fleet caused great surprise. The reason for this event, which seems to be the first robot uprising, was shown as a software error.
Some of the vehicles that blocked the road for a long time were transported by Cruise employees, while the rest were removed from the scene by remote intervention. Viewers of the incident state that at least 8 autonomous vehicles were stuck in traffic.
Cruise autonomous taxis have been tested in certain parts of the USA for about 4 months. These taxis, which offer autonomous journeys to people, were charged a few days ago. These vehicles currently have work permits between 22:00 and 06:00, when the streets are quieter.
Drew Pusateri, Cruise autonomous taxi spokesperson, used the following statements about the incident:
Earlier this week we had an issue that was causing some of our vehicles to clump together. While the issue has been resolved and no passengers were affected, we apologize to anyone for the inconvenience.”
It remains to be seen how the authorities will proceed in the face of this situation. We do not yet know whether there is a penalty for vehicles blocking traffic in this way. We think that we will see new rules in traffic with the increase of self-driving vehicles in the future.
The initial uprising of the robots seems to have been quietly suppressed for now. So what do you think about this strange event? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
