One of the biggest conflicts between the iOS and Android ecosystems is undoubtedly iMessage. Apple’s own messaging service only provides communication between iPhone owners. This internet-based communication application connects with Android phones only via SMS and even shows message bubbles in different colors. So, we can say that iMessage marginalizes Android phones. As such, Google opposes this discrimination and argues that all companies should adopt RCS, which will offer an experience similar to iMessage.

Now, there has been a development that will open a new page to these discussions that have not ended for years. The Nothing Phone team announced that it has developed its own iMessage client and will release it in the coming days. The application, called “Nothing Chats”, will be a first in its field. In the past, iMessage clients have been created by third-party developers, but this is the first time a phone manufacturer has done so.

Nothing Chats will have many of the features found in iMessage

The Nothing Chats app will allow users to have an experience very similar to iMessage. However, it is worth saying that there are some shortcomings for now. For example, this application does not have some features such as read receipts and reacting with emojis. The team says that they are still in beta phase and many more features will be added in the coming period.

However…

There is some controversy about Nothing Chats. The application, which brings the iMessage experience to Android phones, is supported by a company called Sunbird. This company created its own iMessage client last year and served it through the Play Store. What creates controversy is the working logic preferred by this company…

Sunbird is a company with servers in regions such as North America, Europe and Asia. These servers allow messages to be transferred to Apple servers via Mac minis. This is where it gets a little problematic. After all, you need to log in with your Apple ID to use iMessage. So, you share your password with Sunbird, which Apple does not even share with the FBI. The company says that it does not store iCloud login information and messages, but it is up to the consumer to believe this or not.

The application, which will be available in Europe, the USA and the UK as of Friday, November 17, will be downloadable from the Play Store. What kind of experience it will offer to users will become clear as of this date.
