The modernization of the Armored Combat Vehicle ZMA-15, produced by the domestic defense industry company FNSStar nearly 30 years ago, has been completed. The first modernized ZMAs were delivered to the security forces.

With the Armored Combat Vehicles (ZMA) Modernization Project, carried out under the main contractor of ASELSAN, the firepower of ZMAs was increased, their maneuverability was improved and they were equipped with new technologies. 5 of the 134 vehicles to be modernized have been delivered.

What has been added as part of the modernization?

  • 25 millimeter NEFER Weapon System
  • Laser Warning System
  • Close Range Surveillance System
  • Driver Vision System
  • Direction Finding and Navigation System
  • CBRN System,
  • Commander, Gunner, Personnel and Driver Dashboards

Emphasizing the NEFER Weapon System in the renewed ZMAs, ASELSAN General Manager Haluk Görgün said, “As part of the project, armored combat vehicles produced by FNSS about 30 years ago and added to the inventory of our land forces are equipped with many capabilities to meet current and future battlefield needs. The most distinctive of these system capabilities is the NEFER Weapon System, which features the first 25 millimeter unmanned gun turret in the TAF inventory, which will make a difference in firepower superiority in the battlefield.” said.

Pointing out that 360-degree images of the vehicle’s surroundings, day and night, can be transmitted to the crew via screens thanks to the close-range surveillance system and driver vision systems, Görgün explained that the armor and mine protection levels of the vehicle were increased in order to improve the comfort conditions for the mission.

Autonomous ZMAs on the way

Explaining that the sleeves are rolled up for the unmanned ZMA, President of the Presidency of Defense Industry İsmail Demir said, “We are pleased to hear that this is also in the plan. Now it’s time to drive these vehicles to the operational area with autonomous and unmanned remote control elements. We can clearly see that these types of vehicles are integrated into the operational environment with aircraft. We expect the next step of this to be unmanned and autonomous systems.” said.
