The first focus of AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture will be desktop
AMD announced that the new generation of RDNA 4 architecture will be developed for desktop GPUs, and that the products for mobile devices will be released in the future. Announced RDNA 4 at CES 2025 event, the company officially confirmed that the Radeon RX 9000 series will be released in March.

Priority of RDNA 4 Desktop

RDNA 4 draws attention with innovations such as optimized calculation units, better artificial intelligence integration and accelerated beam monitoring performance. However, AMD has not yet fully shared the details of these technologies. Ben Conrad from AMD, said in a statement, “Our current graphic strategy is focused on the desktop market with RDNA 4. Therefore, I think you will see such products first in the future. ” Conrad underlined the future of RDNA 4 in the future, but did not share any time schedule.

AMD offers Radeon GPUs for mobile devices with APUs like Strix Point and Krackan Point, or DGPUs such as RX 7000S/7000M series. AMD could not integrate the RDNA 3.5 architecture into the Mobile DGPU series, which will lead to the performance difference in the face of the Nvidia’s RTX 50 series. On the other hand, AMD’s Strix Halo’s integrated Radeon 8060s and RTX 4070 laptop GPU are said to beat. AMD, perhaps the DGPU side does not give priority to the side because the company can compete with a potential Strix Halo successor Blackwell supported by RDNA 4 and FSR 4.
