They covered the camera with gold foil to protect it from radiation!
In recent years, space studies have also increased. At the beginning of this year, Insta360, a Chinese technology company, took steps for a special space mission. For this space mission, the company sent two cameras into low Earth orbit. The most important feature of these cameras called Insta360 is that they capture 360-degree images.
After the launch of Insta360 cameras, very interesting and high-resolution images emerged. The company, which claims to be the first in the world, sent the camera via satellite. Additionally, the resulting images were taken 300 miles away from Earth.
The company previously sent one of its new models into the stratosphere at an altitude of 26 kilometers with a weather balloon. However, space is a different environment than this. On the other hand, it is not possible to stop cosmic rays outside the atmosphere. Therefore, the camera must withstand high amounts of radiation. It also needs to be ready for vibrations and shocks.
Due to these possible problems, Insta360 worked with Media Storm and satellite company Spacety. Engineers made the camera resistant to space conditions with the changes they made to the motherboard, lens and case. They also added gold foil as a shield to protect it from radiation.
As a result of all this, cameras that are resistant to the low Earth environment, can rotate slowly, and can shoot by adjusting the angle have emerged. When looking at the images taken by the camera, it is also possible to see that galaxies and stars are clearly visible in space.
