Google has released the second Android 13 developer preview. The new version includes an important new feature: Apps will now need to ask for your permission to send notifications.
iOS has had a similar feature for years. Glad to see that Google plans to bring something like this to Android. But it is a fact that this is a late feature.
According to Google’s blog post, it will be a requirement for Android 13 apps to ask permission to send notifications. “Apps targeting Android 13 will now need to request notification permission from the user before sending notifications,” said Dave Burke, VP of Android, in the post.
Another big feature in the new second preview is support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio. Bluetooth LE Audio is a new standard that uses an audio codec called Low Complexity Communication Codec (LC3) that can transmit higher quality at lower bitrates and provides better battery life with less energy consumption.
The first preview of Android 13 was released in February, showing a new theme option and a system-wide photo picker. However, we do know that Android 13 won’t arrive until the end of July.
The previews contain many bugs that Google probably still needs to fix. Therefore, it is not recommended to install them. Google is aiming to release Android 13 betas around April.
