Twitter has recently released its new feature that enables bots and real accounts to be distinguished. The social media platform has now started explicitly adding this information to bots’ profiles and tweets. This system aims to enable users to understand whether they should trust a tweet or not.
The company has now taken action to solve another problem. Sometimes a public figure, institution, etc. we love on Twitter. In the tweets about the accounts, there can be harsh discussions. Once you respond to these discussions, you may be exposed to unnecessary notifications after a while, since your account is included in that flow.
Twitter’s ‘leave without talking’ feature
Jane Manchun Wong, known for the developments she has uncovered about social media applications, shared a screenshot of Twitter’s ‘leave the conversation’ feature. When the feature is activated, the system will automatically do the following:
- It will untag your username: Your username will remain. However, the tag will be removed from the original tweet and all replies.
- Block mention: Other people in that conversation won’t be able to mention you with the @ sign.
- Stop notifications: You will not receive notifications about the conversation you joined.
You can actually stop unwanted chat notifications by muting notifications or blocking an account. However, listening to the criticism that these are not enough, Twitter will make it easier to leave the conversation thanks to new tools. Meanwhile, other people in the conversation will not know that you have activated the feature.
Twitter has started to focus on how it can improve the heated discussion lately. Finally, it enabled users to react negatively to answers with the downvote feature, which is similar to the dislike feature on YouTube. Downvote button is also gradually opened to access.
