Android – The placement of LED flash on smart and classic phones, especially iOS, has eliminated the need for a flashlight. Because LED flashes, whose main purpose is to illuminate the environment while taking pictures with the camera, can also be used as flashlights. This eliminates the need to have a flashlight with us.

iPhone users can lower or increase the brightness of the flashlight as they wish. On Android, this feature is not available by default. Although some Android manufacturers put the function of adjusting the brightness in the flashlight application on the phone, it was highly desirable for it to be default in the operating system.

Significant innovation to flashlight with Android 13

While most Android phones’ flashlight apps have no other option other than “on/off” buttons, it turns out that this will change soon. It was learned that the flashlight brightness can be changed with the Android 13 operating system, the first developer beta version of which was released in February.

To better understand the subject, we need to talk about some technical details. Two new APIs, “getTorchStrengthLevel” and “turnOnTorchWithStrengthLevel”, have been detected in the Android 13 operating system. The first of these APIs, which is not available in previous versions, brings the brightness level of the LED flash; the second allows it to be set from a minimum value of 1 to a maximum.

In other words, thanks to the new APIs developed by Google, the brightness of the flashlight can be adjusted by default in Android 13.

However, it is estimated that this feature may be exclusive to Google Pixel phones due to technical reasons mentioned by a developer, and may not be available on every device that has subsequently installed Android 13. Of course, if the problems in question can be resolved, it can also come to phones other than Pixel.
