Instagram, owned by Meta, continues to improve the platform with new features. The popular social media channel introduced the feature of downloading publicly viewable Reels videos in recent months, but limited the availability of this feature to mobile users in the United States. Now, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has announced that the feature is rolling out to all users worldwide.

Anyone will be able to download Instagram Reels

Anyone using the app can now download public Reels to their device and save them for later viewing. All they have to do is tap the Share button and start the download from there.

According to reports, downloaded Reels videos will have an Instagram watermark with the username of the account, like TikTok, which offers a similar feature. In addition, Reels videos will only download with music if they were created with original tracks. If licensed music is used as the background, the sounds will be muted.

TikTok’s video download feature is helping to attract more users to the app because it gives creators (and reposters) an easy way to share clips across platforms. People who don’t have TikTok may decide to sign up if they find creators they want to follow or want to see more similar types of content.

Instagram may want to repeat this strategy, but users will have the ability to block their Reels from being downloaded. To change the download options, users will need to go to Reels and Remix under Privacy in Settings and turn off the “Let people download your Reels” option.
