WhatsApp is testing a feature where you can react to a message with a heart emoji without having to use the keyboard, similar to a feature on both Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Meta owns all these messaging apps, but not all internet users can keep all three apps on their mobile phones. That’s why the company wants them all to have similar features.
Reacting to messages with a single emoji without opening the keyboard seems more practical than typing something long. In this way, the other person can understand that you have read the message, but do not have time to comment. For example, we can compare this to using one of the emoji options that pop up by pressing and holding your finger on a message in Instagram DM or Facebook Messenger. In WhatsApp, we can only reply to a message by opening the keyboard.
Almost all social media applications also have a messaging component in some way. But some work better than others.
Reacting to messages with emoji seems to be an ideal option for WhatsApp, where there is intense messaging, but it has not been in service until now. Now that we know this feature will be in new versions of WhatsApp, we may start to wonder what other features will be borrowed from it.
