Chinese smartphone maker OPPO has been banned from selling in Germany for violating Nokia’s patents. In the latest statement from the company, it was stated that Germany will remain as the main operation center for European sales.
Patent tension between OPPO and Germany
Nokia had filed a total of 9 lawsuits against OPPO in three regional German courts for five patent infringement. He even said that he had jeopardized his 129 billion Euro investment. The German District Court, which met in the past weeks, took a new decision in the case between Nokia and OPPO.
The decision by the Mannheim District Court gave Nokia a cease-and-desist order against OPPO. In other words, he justified Nokia and banned Chinese companies for patent infringement.
In the last statement made by OPPO Vice President of Sales and Services Billy Zhang, how to continue operations in Europe was discussed. According to Zhang’s statement, Germany will continue to be the main operation center for overseas.
Zhang also stated that with this decision, they will continue to serve customers in Germany, but certain services will be carried out from China.
It is possible to say that Germany acts as a management base for technology companies. For example, OPPO opened its European management office in Düsseldorf in 2020. Similarly, Huawei’s European office is located in Düsseldorf.
According to reports by research firm Counterpoint, OPPO is Europe’s fourth largest smartphone manufacturer. Earlier research revealed that OPPO accounts for 5 percent of smartphone shipments.
