Instagram has always been a platform that tries to improve user interaction and creativity. And now, the popular social media app has added a long-awaited feature that is sure to bring even more fun and expression to its users: the ability to reply to posts with GIFs. The announcement was made by Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri during a conversation with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

GIF support for Instagram comments

In fact, we can say that the ability to respond to Instagram comments with GIFs is a feature that should have come years ago. However, as Mosseri describes, this feature “finally” came. With the addition of GIFs in comments, Instagram users can now go beyond words and emoji to express themselves with animated images from the GIF database, Giphy.
This feature is currently available in the latest version of both the IOS and Android app of Instagram. You can see how this feature works in the images above. In addition, the UK Competition and Markets Authority had ordered Meta (Instagram’s parent company) to sell Giphy last year. It looks like Instagram has decided to leverage the popular GIF platform to improve user interactions within the app.
