More and more information continues to come from the iPhone 15 series, which will be introduced in September. The future of solid-state buttons, which is said to be on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, seems to be clear. The report by Apple supplier Cirrus Logic confirmed that solid-state buttons will not be on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Continue with normal keys

“Among the HPMS opportunities we are discussing, a new product we mentioned in previous shareholder letters is scheduled to launch this fall, but is no longer expected to launch as planned,” Cirrus Logic said in its report to shareholders. “As we currently have limited visibility into our client’s future plans for this product, we are removing revenue related to this component from our internal model.”

HPMS, mentioned by Cirrus Logic, refers to high-performance, mixed-signal chips for the Taptic Engine in iPhones. Apple is Cirrus Logic’s largest customer and alone accounts for almost 80 percent of the firm’s revenue. Analysts say that what Cirrus Logic is talking about is essentially referring to solid-state buttons. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in recent months that the iPhone 15 Pro models will be equipped with two additional Taptic Engines that provide haptic feedback when solid-state buttons are pressed, and Cirrus Logic will likely supply the relevant components.

Last month, however, Kuo stated that the iPhone 15 Pro models will no longer feature touch solid-state buttons, as originally rumored, due to “unresolved technical issues before mass production.” It is expected to continue to use traditional physical keys instead. On the other hand, it is claimed that the Ring/Silent switch will be replaced with a new button and this button can be customized like the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra.
