Europe stepped up in chip production
At the first stage, only the budget for advanced chip facilities was on the agenda, but as a result of the pressures, all processes of chip production were included in the scope. Thus, it was possible to benefit from a wide range of budgets.
With the 43 billion Euro package, it is aimed to double the chip production in Europe to 10 percent in 10 years. Thus, it is foreseen that the dependence on the US and Chinese chips will be minimized.
Intel will benefit the most from the new package. The company, which wants to invest 80 billion Euros in Europe, requested an incentive of 12 billion Euros for the German investment, which exceeded 30 billion Euros in the past weeks.
On the other hand, European chip manufacturers will also be supported more. SiPearl initiative, which produces energy efficiency-oriented chips, Europe’s largest semiconductor manufacturer Infineon, STmicroelectronics, NXP and its own initiative EPI will continue to grow in the coming years.
