While many studies to date prove that social media has a negative impact on people’s mental health, the pressure on social media platforms to prevent this is increasing. While the platforms continue to be on the target board of the authorities to take these measures, a new solution has come for those who want to improve their mental health.
Scientists from the University of Bath have shown that negative emotions such as depression and anxiety can disappear by reducing the use of social media for a certain period of time. The research began with the pre-study depression, anxiety, and well-being of 154 individuals aged 18 to 72 years.
It is possible to feel good without completely quitting social media:
The participants, whose current situation was recorded before participating in the research, spent an average of 8 hours a day on social media. The participants were then asked to reduce their social media use as much as possible for a week. After one week, the participants shared that they used social media for an average of 21 minutes a day.
With reducing social media use for just one week, participants reported significant reductions in depression and anxiety levels. The fact that reducing the use of social media, even for just one week, has produced such results has once again revealed how big a place social media has in our lives.
