Who is Sim Wong Hoo?
Singaporean Sim Wong Hoo, who founded Creative Technology in 1981, also became the first Singaporean company to be listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Hoo, which focused on the USA, started to sell the Sound Blaster cards it developed in this country.
A computer needed a circuit board to be able to produce sound, and it was very difficult to achieve at that time. Creative took an important step by developing the first sound cards to reach the end user in the industry. Creative sound cards, which sell like cheesecake, have found their way into 400 million computers to date.
However, the emerging competitors and the integration of sound technologies into the motherboards broke the strength of the Creative brand. During this period, the Creative mix came up with MP3 players and the Apple iPod, and allocated a marketing budget of around $100 million. With satisfactory success, Creative also sued Apple for a patent and was awarded $100 million in damages.
Today Creative is still very active and ambitious. In addition to equipment such as sound cards, gaming headsets, speakers, fully wireless headphones, microphones and webcams, it also appears in the sector with different software such as spatial audio.
