A crab with human-like “teeth” was plucked out of the ocean by a photographer who shared a photo of the crustacean and was recently shared on Instagram. The frame, which was met with horror in the comments section, shows a crab emerging from water with four teeth that look like a row of human teeth.

Sharing the image, Roman Fedortsov said, “Crabs… Yet there is something attractive and repulsive in them. Mother nature tried…” he said.

Deep-sea creatures are a prominent theme on his page, as Fedortsov encountered several sailors while working on a fishing boat in western Russia, Newsweek reported. While admittedly a little creepy, this toothed crab sits quite happily amongst Fedortsov’s portfolio of ocean oddities, which includes sea spiders, Atlantic wolffish, and eye-eating parasites.

While our toothed crab’s ‘teeth’ were the result of wear and tear rather than functional gnawing tools, it does reveal one of the interesting recent crab stories…
