Removable batteries are back
Some time ago, 587 members of the European Parliament voted to ship all devices with easily replaceable batteries, making some changes to a previous law. This should be seen as the first step. Because the term “easy” here is rather vague. While the process is extremely difficult for someone who has never changed a phone battery in their life, it can be child’s play for someone who has done it many times.
To avoid this vague definition, the EU stated that batteries should not require tools to replace, and suggested that removable backs could return. However, it should be noted that this law will not enter into force before 2027 and will only affect EU-dependent regions. On the other hand, 2027 is almost 4 years away from us, and by then, there may be serious developments in battery technologies. On the other hand, companies have plenty of time to think about their design approaches. Time will tell whether companies like Apple and Samsung will change their designs until the law takes effect.
