The balance sheet of the US sanctions against Huawei, ranging from the Google ban to the chip shortage, has emerged. As it will be remembered, Huawei Vice President Guo Ping talked about the company’s sales revenues in his 2022 New Year speech. Stating that they had a difficult process, Ping announced that they had an income of 634 billion Yuan in 2021.
Despite the embargo, Huawei’s market share in 2021 has emerged, which does not give up on producing phones and computers. Famous analyst firm Omdia has released its global smartphone shipment report covering 2021. According to the data, Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo and OPPO are in the top 5 of the list; Huawei has lagged even behind its former sub-brand Honor.
Huawei market share drops to record in 2021
According to Omdia’s data, Huawei’s market share in 2021 was only 3 percent. At the same time, the company’s phone sales last year decreased by 81 percent compared to 2020 and amounted to 35 million. Honor, the old sub-brand of Huawei, which could not withstand US pressure and sold to a Chinese consortium, was on the rise as an independent company.
According to the same report, Huawei is 9th in the list of best selling smartphone manufacturers in 2021; Honor ranked 8th with 39.8 million sales. Huawei’s share of the smartphone market was 15 percent in 2020 and had 189.7 million sales. The 81 percent decline in 2021 reveals the impact of the US embargo.
Samsung and Apple went head-to-head
According to Omdia, Samsung took the top spot with a 20 percent share in the smartphone market last year. The company, which sold 271.5 million phones, surpassed Apple, which achieved 236.2 million sales and closed the year with a market share of 18 percent. On the other hand, Xiaomi was third with 190.2 million shipments, followed by Vivo with 134.2 million and OPPO with 134.1 million.
