Cat adventure Stray, which was shown as the most successful independent game of 2022 at The Game Awards last year, is getting ready to come to the big screen. The game’s developer company announced that it plans to produce an animated movie based on Stray.
When will the Stray animated movie be released?
Cyberpunk-themed Stray, which debuted in the summer of last year, is on the agenda again with a new animated movie. Annapurna Animation has voiced plans to bring the popular video game to the big screen. In the movie, the cat and the B-12 robot that accompanies him throughout the game will be starring.
Approved by Annapurna Animation executive Robert Baird, the film will chronicle the amusing events of the cat and B-12. In fact, according to Baird’s statement, it will be the best “hopepunk movie” ever. For those who don’t know, the term hopepunk means “optimism as a form of resistance”.
Baird has confirmed that the film is in active development, but details about the crew are yet to be kept secret. This shows that the animated film is still in its early stages. It is thought that it will not be possible until 2024.
It should be reminded that Annapurna was very successful with the animated movie Nimona, which was previously shown on Netflix. It is unclear whether the Stray movie will be presented in the cinema or on a digital platform such as Netflix.
Robert Baird also said that they want to consider more games as animation projects. The publisher’s catalog includes acclaimed titles such as 12 Minutes, Outer Wilds, and Kentucky Route Zero.
