Apple released the iOS 17.0.3 update a few days ago. The main purpose of this update was to solve the overheating problems experienced on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Some thermal tests conducted after the update showed that the new iOS version reduced the maximum temperature reached by new iPhones.
But it seems that iOS 17.0.3 has not completely solved the problems. While some iPhone 15 Pro users say that the problem has been resolved, it seems that some are still complaining about the phone overheating.
Before Apple released the update, it was estimated that it could prevent the phone from overheating while charging. The Apple update seems to be quite successful in stopping overheating when the phone is charging and running normal applications that do not require a lot of processing power. But the software update seems to have a little more trouble fixing the heat dissipation issues. The only solution available for these problems, which can occur when the phone is running more intensive applications and games, may be to throttle the power of the powerful A17 Pro. Predictably, Apple doesn’t want such a performance limitation.
Complaining iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max users report that they notice overheating “while making phone calls, playing games, keeping their phone in their pocket, listening to music, and using the camera.”
ZDNet describes in detail the case of a graphic designer from Madrid who bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Gabriel Suchowolski said the phone gets hot when talking on the phone for more than a minute or taking 4 to 5 or more photos in a row: “Not scorching, but hot as toast… On the right side of the camera lenses and near the volume buttons…”
This was not the case for the designer’s iPhone 13 Pro. However, this situation continued to occur on the 15 Pro Max even after the iOS 17.0.3 update. Reportedly, Suchowolski’s iPhone 15 Pro Max overheated, reaching up to 42°C. He also reported experiencing unusual OLED burn-in. As ZDNet predicts, there may be certain quality issues specific to this user’s iPhone. Fortunately, the designer had purchased AppleCare+ and was able to take steps to resolve the issues.
ZDNet’s news also describes other related overheating cases on the iPhone 15 Pro after the iOS 17.0.3 update in detail. But there are also experiences of users who were cured of the problem after the update.
Apple did not make a new statement about the problem after releasing the fix update. If you are still experiencing overheating, you may need to contact iPhone service to have your device examined.
