As every year, as we prepare to meet a new iPhone series in September this year, new information about this series continues to come. The new information shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo pointed out that Apple will lag behind its competitors in one issue. Kuo shared the roadmap of chip maker TSMC, showing that new iPhones will not transition to up-to-date technology.

According to the shared information, the A16 Bionic chipset, which will be included in the new iPhone 14 series, will not be produced with 4 nm technology, unlike MediaTek, Qualcomm and Samsung. The new chips will continue to use TSMC’s existing 5 nm technology. Thus, Apple will have used 5 nm technology in the last three iPhone series.

So what does this mean? How much will the performance increase in the new iPhone series be?

On the other hand, according to Kuo, 4 nm technology does not offer a huge performance advantage over 5 nm technology. But Apple’s use of the same technology once again may mean we’ll see less performance gains between iPhone series this year. Because staying on the current technology puts its improvements in performance and power efficiency into a dead end after a while. On the other hand, since it is not known how much Apple can push this limit, it is not possible to say anything definite at the moment.

There is one more thing to know about Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset. According to previously revealed information, Apple will only offer the new chipset on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, the new member of iPhone phones, will continue to use the iPhone 13 chipset.
