Borderline content will be better detected
TikTok has been working on new ways to age-restrict certain types of content for the past few months to improve security for its younger users. The short video sharing app introduced a new rating system called content levels to help identify adult content at the beginning of 2022. Now, the security is slightly increased.
It has been announced that a new version of the borderline obscene model, which is used to automatically detect content that is obscene or close, on TikTok. According to the TikTok spokesperson’s statement, thanks to the new model, videos that do not clearly violate the rules of the application and that will not be suitable for younger users will be better detected.
Over 1 million obscene videos blocked
TikTok isn’t the only social networking platform that hides such content from recommendations. Instagram also has security features to prevent long-limited content from being discovered in discovery. Adult-themed but clearly non-nudity content is difficult to automatically detect. TikTok didn’t provide details on how accurate the new system would make predictions, but shared that over the past 30 days, younger users have been blocked from watching more than 1 million explicit videos.
