Last year, all signs indicated that 2023 would be an exciting year for PC gaming using ChromeOS. Earlier, 9to5Google announced that Chromebooks supporting Nvidia graphics cards are on the way. In October 2022, several manufacturers announced game-oriented models with a joint announcement. It seemed like a lot was on the horizon for gaming enthusiasts using Chromebooks.

However, these hopes have been dashed. Eagle-eyed employees of About Chromebooks have spotted clues in Google’s code that multiple Nvidia Chromebook projects have been cancelled. Google has yet to respond to a request for comment.

This will likely be a disappointment for ChromeOS fans who expect super-powerful gaming products. While platforms like GeForce Now are still viable, that can only get you so far. Even if they offer a solid experience in many games, hardware support is important if you want to maximize your settings and resolution.
