Android smartphones lack an iPhone-like Battery Health feature that shows the maximum remaining capacity of a battery compared to the original capacity. While Samsung does show battery health in the Samsung Members app, it doesn’t show an accurate percentage of remaining capacity as it does with iPhones. But with Android 14, Google is working on new features that could bring detailed battery health stats to Android phones and tablets.
Android expert Mishaal Rahman announced that Google has added new capabilities to the BatteryManager APIs with Android 14. These new capabilities allow devices to report more detailed information about battery health, including battery charge cycles, charge policy, charge status, first use date, date of manufacture, and health status. These new APIs are currently only available on Pixel devices running Android 14 Beta 2 (or newer).
However, the accuracy given may vary depending on the smartphone or tablet, as the data displayed by the new BatteryHealth APIs depends on the capabilities of the integrated charging chip and HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer).
The battery health statistics shown in Rahman’s image show an app called Batt that uses the new BatteryHealth APIs.
