Increasing costs in recent years have pushed many automobile manufacturers to form partnerships. While many manufacturers gather under the same roof with partner companies, some brands follow the path of using common parts in their vehicles. The partnership between Renault and Nissan, which is one of the partnerships that has been developing in the last period, may come to an end.
Renault-Nissan partnership may end
According to the information received, the Japanese automaker wants to continue its development in areas such as software and electric vehicles independently of its alliance partner Renault. Although the two companies have recently officially agreed to closer cooperation, Nissan seems to have different plans.
Last February, the Alliance, made up of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, announced a reorganization of the existing partnership. In line with the new plan, these three companies announced that they will make joint investments in electric cars in Latin America, India and Europe.
On the other hand, it was also among the articles of the new agreement that Renault would reduce its Nissan shares. Accordingly, Renault will reduce the share of Nissan, of which it holds 43 percent, to 15 percent.
It has been learned that Nissan, which has increased its mobility with all these developments, has made new plans and examined the ground for new partners. Nissan is seeking a partner outside the auto industry to develop new software for its vehicles and cloud-based services.
On the other hand, Nissan wants to gain independence in terms of electric power units. Nissan has no plans to support Ampere, Renault’s electric car division, and does not want to share e-Power hybrid technology with Renault and its partners.
It is stated that Renault’s lack of involvement in innovation and development costs is behind Nissan’s desire to leave the partnership. In their statement to Reuters, both automobile manufacturers said that they continue to work for partnership terms that will make both companies more competitive.
Thinking that the Alliance will no longer recover, Nissan may announce its independent roadmap this year.
