Meta’s popular messaging platform Messenger has been available as an SMS application since 2016. This feature was only available to users with the Android operating system.
Today, bad news came from Meta about Messenger’s SMS support. The technology giant announced that the SMS feature will be removed.
Messenger’s SMS feature will no longer be available after September 28
Users using Facebook Messenger as the default SMS application started to inform. When the “Help Center” page of Messenger is examined, we see that it is stated that the feature will not be available as of September 28.
In addition, the company says that SMS messages can be sent and received via the cellular data network, and SMS history can be accessed through the phone’s new default messaging app. If you want to change your SMS application, you need to go to “Applications” from the settings, then “Default Applications” and choose a new SMS application.
Third-party SMS applications do not attract much attention nowadays. The fact that Meta has a huge messaging application like WhatsApp reveals that the SMS feature of Messenger is no longer that important to the company.
