Every year, May 4 is celebrated as World Password Day. This year, as every year, the most commonly used passwords were published and still nothing has changed compared to previous years.
The most widely used passwords study on the internet, published every year by NordPass, is done to draw attention to password security. The fact that 83 percent of the 20 most used passwords in 2022 can be cracked in less than 1 second shows that password choices are still very careless. If you use any of these passwords, your e-mail, social media platforms and computer may be at risk.
NordPass says the list of passwords was compiled in partnership with independent researchers specializing in the investigation of cybersecurity incidents, and a 3TB database was evaluated. While the study covers 30 countries, it also includes information specific to the USA.
The most common password in the USA is “guest”, which is used by more than 127,000 people. This password takes 10 seconds to crack.
