Entering the graphics card market with Arc Alchemist models, Intel launched the highly anticipated XeSS technology earlier this week. The new resolution scaling technology, which is expected to rival Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, has been tested by Tom’s Hardware on AMD and Nvidia graphics cards.
What does XeSS offer?
According to reports, XeSS technology, which includes two different systems, will work with XMX acceleration on Arc GPUs and DP4a instructions on other modern graphics cards. However, the second version is expected to support many graphics cards such as Intel’s 11th Generation graphics cards, AMD Vega 20, Navi 1X, NVIDIA Pascal and more recent cards.
Looking at the tests carried out in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, XeSS technology, which faces its rival DLSS in 1440p resolution and “Quality” modes, works flawlessly with almost all graphics cards. However, we can say that the promised performance gain is left behind compared to the basic resolution and DLSS.

As is known, Intel has confirmed that the performance and image quality will change between XeSS DP4a and XeSS XMX. Considering that XeSS technology is still in its early stages, Intel still has a long way to go to address performance issues.
