American engineer and entrepreneur Elon Musk said during a video conference call with investors that humanoid robots will be the most important project Tesla will work on in 2022. According to the veteran executive, humanoid robots will play a key role in solving the labor shortage problem in the United States.
Musk said that humanoid robots, known as Optimus, will primarily be used in Tesla’s own factories. The experienced executive thinks that the humanoid robot project may become more important than the automobile business over time. According to the roadmap, Tesla will not be introducing any new car models this year. The company will focus on increasing production at existing facilities and solving supply chain issues. It will also develop the FSD (fully autonomous driving) system.
Tesla Bot project announced in August
The Tesla Bot humanoid robot project, codenamed Optimus, was introduced at the Tesla AI Day event held last August. Musk shared some details about the 172 cm tall and 56 kg robot at the artificial intelligence-focused conference and said that the first prototype will be ready in 2022. Tesla Bot will take on dangerous, repetitive and tedious physical work for humans.
It is stated that the humanoid robot will have the same artificial intelligence system as Tesla’s driver assistance technology, also known as autopilot. In a way, Musk’s comments disappointed Tesla customers and investors, who were eagerly waiting for the news about the company’s vehicles such as Cybertruck, Roadster and Semi.
