US-based electric car manufacturer Tesla, achieved a great success with its cheapest car, Model 3. Launched with a price tag starting at 35 thousand dollars, the vehicle managed to attract the attention of the industry and users with various rental and purchase options.

But after the automakers announced that they would return to electric vehicles by 2030, competition in the sector started to increase. However, the newly launched brands are also challenging themselves quite assertively. Nio is among these companies.

Nio ET5 became the agenda with its 1000-kilometer range

Nio’s upcoming ET7 electric car, one of China’s emerging brands, is said to be specially designed to challenge Tesla’s Model S. Then the company announced its new vehicle, the ET5, which will rival the Model 3. The vehicle, which offers a range of 550 kilometers with a standard 75kWh battery pack, doubles its range if you buy the 150kWh upper equipment option called Ultralong Range.

The price of the Nio ET7 model was announced at the level of 70 thousand dollars. The ET5 is expected to go on sale for $50,000. Of course, although it is quite expensive compared to a normal car, we are actually looking at a vehicle above the standards, since it is a top segment vehicle in terms of range, performance and comfort. In addition, the version of this vehicle to be sold in China will also have a battery-free option. This package will also be available for $41,000.

Still, we have to point out that Tesla’s Model 3 is well above the starting price of 35 thousand dollars. However, this difference is unfortunately inevitable for users who want long range. Because Tesla also sells the battery upgrade package as an option in its cars with a price difference close to this.

The ET5 will have built-in support for autonomous driving features, just like the Model 3. Also, drivers will have a 201-inch digital cockpit, which is equivalent to 6-metre viewing. They will achieve this thanks to augmented reality glasses developed by Nreal that can project a virtual screen. In addition, the company has also collaborated with Nolo to make VR glasses. But these devices will not get stuck during active driving.

The first deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2022, around September. However, Nio will make the ET7 available from March 28. In other words, the ET5 will actually be the second model of the series that is planned in the near future and is relatively more affordable. In addition, the company expanded to Norway in 2021. But by next year, it wants to expand to 25 countries and regions by 2025, mainly in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Nio ET5 technical specifications

The ET5 is said to have a length of 4,790mm, a width of 1,960mm, a height of 1,499 and a wheelbase of 2,888mm. When we look under the hood, we encounter a double electric motor that can produce 385 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Looking at the data shared by the company, the 0-100 acceleration of the vehicle takes only 4.3 seconds.
