Tesla isn’t the only automaker offering games you can play while you wait in your car. BMW is starting to collaborate with AirConsole to offer casual games in its cars from 2023. The technology downloads games to your infotainment system and uses your phone as a controller.
According to Engadget’s report, the purpose here is to have a pleasant time while charging your electric car. But the automaker sees it as useful for any time while waiting in the car; for example, when you are waiting to pick up someone at the airport.
BMW did not reveal which vehicles are on the list for the games. However, AirConsole’s technology seems to be a ‘perfect’ fit for the curved screen already used in vehicles like the iX.
BMW’s approach is not as flexible as Tesla’s approach to games. Tesla lets you play using custom controllers and even the steering wheel of the car. BMW, on the other hand, hands over all control to your phone. Still, BMW’s move is a key feature in the EV era, where you can spend hours at a charging station.
