The durability of batteries, which have an important place in the electric vehicle industry, is seen as an important parameter for vehicle owners. Many EV owners wonder how many miles or years they can drive without replacing their batteries. Tesla co-founder and former CTO JB Straubel shared his ideas on how long an EV battery should last.
Batteries should last for 15 years
Straubel made a statement about the durability of EV batteries during an interview. In his statement: “It’s a subjective thing depending on what people are aiming for the car, but in most cases I think it would easily be 15 years.” made statements.

As Chief Technology Officer, Straubel was also responsible for Tesla’s battery development until he stepped down in 2019. Speaking about his new company, Redwood Materials, Straubel says his company recycles 8-10GWh, which he says is enough for hundreds of thousands of cars a year.
