We can say that one of the greatest gifts of the internet, which is the locomotive of digital transformation, is social media. These channels, which provide great benefits to users if used correctly, can also come to the fore with troublesome events. A new one has been added to these recently. Tawainna Anderson sued the platform, claiming that her daughter Nylah, who died last year, died because of a stream on TikTok.

TikTok sued due to Blackout Challenge

Interesting trends appear on social media from time to time. Although these are usually fun, sometimes they can even come to a level that threatens human life. One of them is the Blackout Challenge, which has not been on the agenda lately on TikTok, that is, an endurance test with the theme of being out of breath for a long time.

Tawainna Anderson sued ByteDance on the grounds that her daughter Nylah Anderson, who passed away in December last year, died due to the Blackout Challenge on the platform. At this point, Anderson claimed that his 10-year-old daughter saw and participated in a video about the trend in the “For You” tab (TikTok’s description), which is personalized according to users’ interests and engagement.

Expressing that he found Nylah lying motionless in her room on December 7 and they immediately took her to the hospital, Anderson said that her daughter passed away five days later. On the other hand, it has been claimed that at least four deaths have occurred due to the current trend and TikTok has not corrected its algorithm despite such situations that may interest users. -especially for younger people-
