From time to time you stop and say, “Where are those old cartoons?” do you say Frankly, I use this sentence a lot, and I’m sure you’re thinking about it even if you don’t use it. Bugs Bunny, Spider-Man, Tsubasa, Crazy Pirate Jack (my favorite) and our guest today are Ninja Turtles or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I hope you read the title as in the credits because that’s how I wrote it. Ninja Turtles really caught my attention when I was a kid because of the turtle’s name, and at that time we used to call ourselves turtles’ names and fight each other needlessly (not seriously). But then we realized Ninja Turtles has games. Then we went and started playing these games. Of course, since most of these games were released at the same time as my birthday, we played a few years late, and it was very difficult to find the console, and even worse, the games were difficult to find. But somehow we found a few of them and spent a few years on these games. That’s why Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, which was released recently, got me very excited. When I received the game, I started playing the games without any expectation other than the feeling of nostalgia. So did I find what I was looking for?

Let me answer the question right from the beginning: Yes, I found it, and more than enough. Before I convey my experience in games to you, let’s list some games if you want. All the games included in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection package are as follows:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time* (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (N)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (N)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (N)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (N)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SN)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters* (SN)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist* (SG)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (SG)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (GB)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (GB)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (GB)

Online Games

  • TMNT (Arcade)
  • TMNT Turtles in Time (Arcade)
  • TMNT The Hyperstone Heist
  • TMNT Tournament Fighters

I played all the games even for half an hour. Since there is no such thing as remastered for games, it is frankly a little unreasonable to interpret the games themselves, because it would be wrong to criticize these games released before 2000 in terms of gameplay and graphics. I can say that I was very afraid that it would not give the feeling of my childhood, but from the very beginning of the game, I left myself to 8-year-old Özgür and spent a few hours of unbelievable fun. Because they didn’t even try to adapt the games to today. The image is still in square format but you can change it whenever you want, the controls are old (seriously old) and those meaningless sounds are still there. Therefore, I can say that not experiencing nostalgia is inevitable even for someone who does not know games.

Well, if you say that there is no innovation in these games, of course there is. Added Online Play and Local Co-op Play mode for some games. You can also save and rewind the game whenever you want.

Frankly, I can’t find much to say because, as I said, the games are old. But the entertainment it gives is still too much, even after more than 20 years. Especially if you played these games in your childhood, it is very enjoyable to come back and experience nostalgia. In short, I can say this. If you are a fan of Ninja Turtles, it is a production that can be added to the collection due to its affordable price. Or if you want to experience nostalgia, it is a production that can be bought and tried for a few hours due to its affordable price. In addition, thanks to its online mode, it is far from being a game that you will add to your collection casually.
