If Qualcomm’s platform offers anything close to the performance and battery life of those chips, it could mean a big shift for Windows users, especially in the lightweight laptop space. Another feature that Snapdragon X chips have in common with M1 and above chips is that they will come with a neural processing unit designed for internal artificial intelligence operations in small form factor devices.
Qualcomm Senior Vice President Don McGuire calls it “a quantum leap forward in performance and power efficiency” and says the system will enable on-device experiences “for the new era of productive AI.” In addition, the Snapdragon X platform will continue to have 5G connectivity like the Snapdragon 8cx platform before it. On the other hand, Qualcomm Oryon CPU was first announced in November 2022. At the time, the company said that this new CPU “will be integrated into a broad portfolio of Snapdragon-powered products, starting with PCs and including smartphones, digital cockpits, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, extended reality and infrastructure networking solutions.” In addition, all this information is actually a preliminary announcement of the Snapdragon X series.
