The Taliban took over the administration of Afghanistan in 2021 and was on the agenda of the whole world. Since then, new bans have been imposed on those living in the country. The information released last August revealed that the administration had banned 23 million websites in the country in the last year due to ‘immoral content’. Now, a new ban has come from the group that controls the country.

With its new statements, the Taliban announced that it has banned the multiplayer action game PUBG: Battlegrounds, which has millions of users all over the world, in Afghanistan. It was stated that the new ban, which was determined after a meeting between the authorities in the country, will come into force in the next three months.

PUBG banned for inciting violence

The Taliban originally requested the ban on PUBG last April. However, the details and timeline became clear with the decision taken today. According to the statements, the popular game was banned for reasons such as “misleading the younger generation”, “inciting violence” and “wasting people’s time”. Afghan telecommunications companies and internet services will have 90 days to enforce the ban. Let’s also mention that the ban will focus on the mobile version of PUBG.

PUBG was very popular in Afghanistan as well as all over the world. According to data obtained at the beginning of 2021, the game reached 100,000 players at the same time, making up a significant part of the country’s mobile internet traffic.

TikTok is also banned in the country

In addition to the PUBG ban, TikTok, one of the world’s most popular social media platforms, will also be banned in the country. According to the decision taken at the meeting, companies will have a period of one month to block the short video platform.
