The developers of the Chromium browser (the basis of Google Chrome) are developing a feature for quickly closing the current tab.

There was similar functionality in the Edge browser last year

Judging by the description of the code change, in the future Chrome will allow you to close the current tab by double-clicking the title in the tab bar. A similar functionality appeared in Microsoft Edge last year and can be found in the Vivaldi browser as well.

Currently, Chrome users have three standard options for closing a tab: using the X icon, using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl (or Cmd) + W, or pressing the middle mouse button. You can also close tabs with a double click using the third-party Double Click Closes Tab plugin if you don’t want to wait for Google to update it.
