Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios’ long-awaited sci-fi RPG, will meet with players on September 6. Pre-orders for the game have already started on digital stores, including Steam. In addition, the PC hardware requirements of the game can be seen on the Steam pre-order page.

One of the most notable things about the PC specs listed for both Minimum and Recommended tiers is that the game will require 125GB of storage. After Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Redfall and more, with Starfield once again this year we see a big game take up more than 100GB of onboard PC storage.

Another notable requirement is that although Starfield is only a single player game, it still requires a broadband internet connection. It is not yet clear whether this connection needs to be always open for the game to work.

Finally, the game asks for an SSD instead of an old-fashioned hard drive for storage.

The system requirements for Starfield are as follows:

Minimum

  • Operating System: Windows 10 version 22H2 (10.0.19045)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

Recommended

  • Operating System: Updated Windows 10/11
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

It’s possible that these requirements will change before the game’s launch, so for now it’s worth viewing these hardware recommendations as potential requirements that haven’t been fully verified.

30fps unlocked on Xbox

If you want to play Starfield on Xbox Series S or X consoles, it’s good to know that Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Game Studios, confirmed that the game will run at a steady 30fps on both consoles.

Xbox Series S will run at 1440p resolution at this frame rate, while Xbox Series X will run at 4K resolution. “We’re fixing it at 30 because we want that level of accuracy, we want all of that,” Howard said in a statement. We don’t want to sacrifice anything. Luckily on this one, we managed to run it great. He usually works very well on that. Sometimes it reaches 60. But on consoles, we’re fixing it because we prefer consistency where you don’t even have to think (about fps).”
