According to a new report shared by IT analyst firm Dell’Oro Group, it is said that the Wi-Fi 6E standard, released in mid-2021, will have a limited lifespan.
Supply issues can affect Wi-Fi 6E devices
The Wi-Fi 6E standard, which offers a wider frequency range, higher efficiency and lower latency compared to Wi-Fi 6, paved the way for the transition from the 5 GHz band, which is widely used today, to the 6 GHz band. While companies like Netgear and Synaptics have recently introduced networking devices with the new standard, big chip companies like MediaTek have already started promoting their WiFi 7 products.
The Wi-Fi 7 standard, which will offer a speed increase of about 2 times compared to the Wi-Fi 6E standard, is expected to be available next year. However, Dell’Oro Group says that companies are turning to Wi-Fi 6, the components of which can be obtained more easily compared to 6E, and thinks that 6E will have a short life and will switch to Wi-Fi 7 before it becomes widespread.
