Soil samples taken from the areas to be converted into forests in Antalya, Muğla, Adana, Mersin, Denizli, Isparta and Burdur are delivered to the Soil Analysis Laboratory of the Western Mediterranean Forestry Research Institute within the General Directorate of Forestry.
The analysis of soils, which go through many stages in the laboratory by applying sieving, classification and various methods, is carried out with the meticulous work of a team of 7 people.
According to the report prepared as a result of the analysis, the saplings to be planted in the area are determined.
West Mediterranean Forestry Research Institute Director Neşe Cılız said that the General Directorate of Forestry is carrying out afforestation work to turn thousands of hectares of land into forest.
Stating that the quality and retention rate of saplings are important in afforestation, Cılız noted that a healthier and faster forest environment is created with the analyzes made.
Cılız stated that by analyzing the soil in the nurseries, they ensure that the saplings grow healthy.
Explaining that they examined soil samples from regional forestry directorates as well as institutions that will carry out afforestation, Cılız said, “With soil analysis, we look at which species are suitable for the site. In other words, we answer the question of whether red pine or stone pine should be planted in a land. We also carry out analyzes in the forests where we have problems. Why?” “We’re trying to show that we have a problem.” said.
