XRP Ledger reached a new historical record, exceeding 83 million blocks. This new success was the highest data since XRPL’s debut year.

Success after 11 years

XRPL’s latest success comes 11 years after its inception and demonstrates the rapid growth and development of permissionless blockchains that offer low-cost and fast transactions for a variety of use cases.

XRPScan, one of the most prominent XRPL chain researchers, highlighted this success for the first time. In a recent post on X, the team behind the researcher confirmed that XRPL reached this milestone on October 5. On-chain data confirmed that the book closing occurred at exactly 03:52 (UTC).

The 83 millionth book close comes just weeks after the network reached the 82 million threshold on August 21. This showed that XRP Ledger processed 1 million blocks in six weeks and 3 million blocks since May 27.

Data from XRPScan also revealed that the network now has 83,025,273 blocks, having processed another 25,273 blocks in just 24 hours after passing the 83 million milestone.

Additionally, XRPScan data showed that the network completed 283,278 transactions with 39,716 payments in the current block. It was noted that this significant growth rate can be attributed to the increasing interest in XRPL in an environment where developments in the ecosystem continue.

To put XRPL’s recent success into context, the Bitcoin network, which started three years before XRPL, currently has only 810,859 blocks. Interestingly, the XRP Ledger reached block 810,859 in 2013, just one year after its launch.
