With the widespread use of products such as the internet, computers and smartphones, digital environment security has gained great importance. But most of us are not very good at this. In fact, not only us as end users, but also the platforms with which we share our data for any reason are not in a good condition in terms of data protection. Apple, which conducted a research on this, shared striking data.

Apple conducted a research in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This research revealed that cyber attacks and the leakage of personal data have become an epidemic. Because according to Apple’s research, 2.6 billion data were exposed in the last two years alone. According to the research, which reveals that the number of data breaches between 2013 and 2022 has increased more than 3 times, 2023 will be recorded as the year when data breaches reached their peak.

No matter how careful we are as end users, we cannot ensure the protection of our data.

The joint study of Apple and MIT revealed that there is not much the end user can do. Because, according to the research, hackers do not target companies that keep security high or conscious consumers during a cyber attack. Instead, businesses that are used by the targeted person for any reason and whose security level is relatively low are attacked. This leads to data leakage.

Apple also shared some data for 2023 in its statements on the subject. According to Apple, data breaches in the USA between January and September 2023 were 20 percent more than in the same period the previous year. Apple says more than 80 percent of these data breaches are caused by cloud storage technologies. With this; During this period, the rate of ransomware attacks increased by 70 percent. According to Apple, the best solution for now is end-to-end encryption technologies.
