Horror legend Stephen King is watching Stranger Things 4 like many others. The famous author tweeted on Saturday the idea for a spinoff series focusing on one of this season’s (non-creature) villains.
King wrote, “I love Yuri, that nasty, sly Russian man,” and continued: “He deserves his own show. Like Barry, but Russian.”
Yuri is a side character in the series tasked with collecting payment from Joyce and helping Hopper in his final leg of escaping a Russian prison camp, in a deal between Joyce and a prison guard named Enzo.
HBO’s Barry is a dark comedy series starring Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader. In the show’s first season, Hader plays a depressed hitman attending an acting class in Los Angeles.
The first seven episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 premiered on May 27. Two more episodes will air on July 1, including a final episode that reportedly took over two hours. Stranger Things 4 was watched 286.8 million hours in the first three days, more than Bridgerton’s second season.
The Duffer Brothers, creators of Stranger Things, say they’ve been fans of King for a long time. “He was a huge inspiration to us growing up. He’s like a god to us,” Ross Duffer said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. King is also a fan of the show. “The new season of Stranger Things is really great – at least as good or better than the previous three,” he wrote last Wednesday.
However, the author thinks that it “doesn’t suit” the series to be published in two parts.
A Twitter account for the Stranger Things writer’s room responded to King’s tweet, “Sorry Uncle Stevie, 8+9 isn’t finished yet, but we’re working as fast as we can! We’re happy you like it and see our super-slim Carrie riff” said.
