Discovered TOI-1853b is a planet orbiting the orange dwarf star TOI-1853. This exoplanet system was detected by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and is located about 544 light-years from Earth in the direction of the Boötes constellation. TOI-1853b consists of a larger proportion of rock mass than would be expected for a Neptune-sized planet. The planet’s mass is twice that of other known similar-sized planets, suggesting that its density is significantly higher.

On the other hand, exactly how the planet formed is still unknown. But the researchers were able to create a computer model showing that the planet was formed as a result of a catastrophic planetary collision. This mighty cosmic collision may have destroyed the atmosphere and water that existed before the collision, leaving huge chunks of rock behind. The team speculates that this planet was originally a water-rich world.
